Most people experience bowel problems at some point in life. Whether it’s abdominal cramps due to a food intolerance or diarrhea due to an illness or a particular food, again, people have bowel problems at some point or another. These problems are never comfortable, and they can often disrupt work or leisure activities.

If you have problems like these more than just once in a while, though, you might be dealing with severe bowel problems like Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Crohn’s disease. These problems come about when part of the digestive system – part of the bowels, specifically – is inflamed. Inflammation can cause all sorts of symptoms, including severe abdominal cramps, chronic diarrhea, and even malnutrition due to lack of nutrient absorption.

If you’ve experienced problems like these and have not yet been diagnosed with a bowel disease, it’s time to seek the help of a physician now. These problems can go on for your entire life, and if left untreated, they can have serious ramifications.

Maybe you already know that you have IBD, Crohn’s, or ulcerative colitis. If this is the case, you’re probably dealing with a number of medications along with dietary restrictions. If your condition is bad enough, you may have even had to have surgery to remove the most inflamed part of your bowels. If you have any of these problems and have ever taken Accutane for cystic acne, you may be able to get compensation for your problems.

The Problem with Accutane

No one can deny that Accutane is a very effective medication against cystic acne. The problem, though, is that this overly strong medication also has many side effects. It’s absolutely a last resort, and it’s normally only prescribed for a few weeks at a time. The problem, according to critics, is that patients were not always warned about the side effects that are possible with even a few weeks of treatment on Accutane.

One of the first Accutane lawsuits was brought by a man who had taken the drug for only four weeks. Those four weeks wrecked his life by giving him a severe inflammatory bowel disease that resulted in his having to undergo major surgery to remove part of his intestines. Now, he is under treatment for the rest of his life. Because the jury ruled that Accutane’s labels did not properly warn this New Jersey man against the potential side effects of the medication, he received a positive award from the jury.

Shortly after this lawsuit, the drug was removed from the market, as it was apparently becoming too expensive for its manufacturers to keep up with the lawsuits. Currently, there are hundreds of Accutane lawsuits happening. Many people have experienced bowel problems after taking this medication. Although research doesn’t yet tell us why these problems are so severe, it is clear in many cases that Accutane was at least a major contributing factor for the diseases. This is why, if you have ever taken Accutane and find that you have Crohn’s, IBD, or another inflammatory bowel problem, you should investigate your legal rights.
